A Brief History of the Club

 

1974

Club first formed.

 

1981

Club Formally constituted and present boathouse at Golant acquired.

 

One of only three sliding seat rowing clubs in Cornwall

 

Open to men and women of all ages (Juniors from 11)

 

1985

Mens Senior B crew won West of England championships

 

1992

Allen Griffiths: President of WEARA

 

1997 onwards

Steady rise in membership to 30 members currently registered.

 

Members have competed at Henley, The Tideway Head (River Thames) The National Championships,

 

Inter-Regional Championships,The Boston Marathon and many regional Heads and Regattas.

 

Opportunities to compete in above events but many members row for recreation.

 

Social events both on and off the water all year round.

 

Equipment to cater for complete novices to competition level, particularly juniors.

 

2001

Awarded  ARA Project Oarsome Status- linking with two local secondary schools

 

Six registered ARA coaches

 

2003

Won West of England Sculling Championship.

 

2004

Rebuild of boathouse following successful CCDP bid of £250,000

 

Achieved ClubMark status

 

Web site online and Member’s Handbook  published.

 

Annie Vernon won Ladies Pairs at Henley Women’s Royal Regatta and Bronze medal,  World Championships, Poznan, Poland.

 

2005

Achieved Registered Charity Status (No:1111204)
